A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was formally exchanged between Kaira District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd. (Amul Dairy) and the Government Of Assam, India, on 18th May 2025 at the Srimanta Sankaradeva International Auditorium, Guwahati, as part of the Advantage Assam 2.0 initiative. The ceremony was held in the august presence of Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam, along with Senior Government Officials, Ministers, and key dignitaries. The agreement, signed by Dr. Amit Vyas, Managing Director of Amul Dairy, paves the way for establishing a modern Amul Dairy Plant at IFM Rani, Kamrup district, Assam, aimed at strengthening the dairy ecosystem in the region and enhancing livelihoods for rural farmers.
The proposed collaboration involves setting up a modern milk processing facility in Assam with a capacity of one lakh litres per day. With an estimated investment of ?75 crore, the project is expected to generate employment opportunities while directly benefiting around 20,000 dairy farmers in the region, reflecting the cooperative's strong commitment to expanding its footprint in the North-East and contributing to the socio-economic development of the region. This collaboration under the Advantage Assam 2.0 initiative aims to boost the rural economy, generate employment, and empower dairy farmers in the North-East.
